Church President Tears and laughter will be mingled in the pages of the 1959 Catamount; but, withal, those pages will preserve priceless mem- ories of a never-to-be-forgotten year at Potomac State College. Congratulations to the staff and its sponsors for an invaluable service. Mr. Kii-kl.mil S. McKee J loan Education as a discipline of the mind is the key which unlocks the door to the development of one's whole personality. Potomac State College with its excellent academic program and its many extra-curricular activities affords the student this key for self-development and outstanding leadership. This 1959 Catamount effectively portrays the full college life. We express our appreciation to the staff and sponsors for this excel- lent edition. We Honor m Mr. Inhn W. Stanhagen Through the years students of Potomac State campus have found the Student Center a hap- py rendezvous for between-class activities. The genial manager, Mr. John Stanhagen, graciously greets them as they seek com- panionship with colleagues over a cup of chocolate or "coke." "Sleepy" Stanhagen, as he is familiarly known to his many friends, in a sense is the unoffi- cial host of the college to stu- dents and parents. His Center is truly a pivotal point wherein one may collect his mail, wait for a friend, make a 'phone call, find a pleasant selection for lunch, purchase a text, be enter- tained by rock 'n' roll records, try his skill at pinball, or accept a challenge to pingpong. With sincere appreciation for countless thoughtful gestures of kindness and consideration, the staff affectionately dedicates the 1959 CATAMOUNT to Mr. John W. Stanhagan. From a humble beginning the Singers group has grown both in number and reputation to become the most active cultural organization on the campus. Po- tomac State sends this group on annual tours to represent the college at many high schools in the tri-state area. The highlight of the winter season was the presentation of "The Adoration," a cantata by Nevin, which was sung before the Keyser Rotary Club and the college as the Christmas convocation. The cantata featured the Mixed Chorus, the Men's and Women's Choruses, and soloists, Carolyn Smith and Robert Young. The Singers also added special music to the annual "Religious Emphasis Week" program. Climaxing the year with their last performance for the graduating members, the Singers provided the music for the Commencement convocation.
